I'm not back in school yet. But when August started, that cued me to start thinking about this coming year. I realized how much of a seasonal person I really am. I tried to knock down school thoughts, but they just kept coming! As I was thinking about how I wanted to start out the year with my students, I kept coming back to the idea of traditions.

When starting school, what's more traditional than a First Day of School photo? I still take one even though my kids are in high school. From last year:

Why wasn't I doing a first day photo with my students? I had never really thought about it before because I usually don't see my students till the second week of school. But now, it seems like the perfect way to get a good start. So I made a sign.

And what good is just a picture? So I'm offering the Back to School Memory Book {Freebie} in B&W and color. There is space to write in goals for the year, I Can statements, I Will Learn statements, etc. Be sure to grab it before Aug. 17 because it is a limited-time freebie!

Here are some ideas for using first-day pictures:

* Let students color in the B&W copy while talking about the upcoming year.

* Take photographs and have them developed. Because I have an iPad, that is fairly easy now. My husband is always encouraging me to use more technology.

* Email the pictures to parents. This will help start communication for the year and let parents know that their children have started receiving direct services.

* Use the pages as a bulletin board. As students master objectives/goals, celebrate by starring those and then add new ones!

* This freebie can be a stand alone or part of My Speech Therapy Memory Book for keeping memories and celebrations all year!
