#2GETHERWEAREBETTER: 2016 Goals

j

Ready or Not..... 2016 is HERE!

If you're anything like us, you scribble numerous ideas in your planner to implement next semester or the next school year. I know my planner is filled with "to-do lists." Here are our goals we would like to implement in 2016.

Amy has decided to start a coding class with a group of first graders in her school. Let me just say, I admire this task Amy is undertaking! The benefits of coding are truly endless. It will strengthen problem-solving skills and prepare our young learners for a technological world. In a post I recently read, Mitchel Resnic explains, "Coding is the new literacy. To thrive in tomorrow's society, young people must learn to design,  create and express themselves with digital technologies." Amy is transforming her library into various forms of literacy to meet the needs of her students' future.

Laura's goal is to complete speech screenings and discuss concerns with parents and teachers within  one week of getting parent permission. I truly admire specialists and their ability to juggle schedules and deadlines. As a classroom teacher, there are only specific times that I'd like for my kids to be taken away from instruction. I try to be flexible, but it's hard to totally let go of control! Hehe Laura has recently talked about the necessity of faster response time and I can see where that would benefit everyone involved.

My goal for this semester is manage my schedule better to meet the needs of my kiddos. This year is my first year in Pre Kand to say that I've had to change my routine is an understatement! I have many students that have begun Guided Reading. Since October, I've tried to hold my small group and perform Guided Reading lessons whenever possible. However, I don't feel like it's been as effective as I'd like for it to be. This next semester, my goal is to meet with my Guided Reading small group every day at a specific time. I'm going to set a an alarm on my phone in hopes that it will help me get in a better routine. While I'm running my guided reading group, I will have my other kiddos work on our new class iPads! That way, this time period will act as an RTI time for all of my kiddos.

We wish everyone a happy and successful new year!
