Tuesday Talk

Week 2 of celebrating Texas, our Texas!
I thought I would share some of my favorite books to read with the sweeties.

Our state flower is the beautiful bluebonnet.
Tomie dePaola has the classic retelling for any wildflower season in Texas.
But I have enjoyed sharing the retelling by Michael Lind.
And if you are in Austin, take time to visit the incredible Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
Kathi Appelt tells the story of Miss Lady Bird in her must-read book.
And, other must reads include fractured fairy tales by Susan Lowell.

My all-time favorite Texas book, T is for Texas,  is written by Anne Bustard.
Bats are popular in Austin.   So, even though we study bats in October.
We bring the bats back when studying Texas symbols.
The Mexican-Free Tailed Bat is the Texas State Flying Mammal.
Deborah Kadair's book is perfect for learning more about our official state symbols.

Rodeos are big business in Texas.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is serious business in our state.
Last year, over 2 million people attended this annual event.
I do love Eric Kimmel's books.
He is a wonderful storyteller.
You cannot go wrong with his books.
And I just read on his website the out-of-print The Runaway Tortilla will be available
with a new publisher in September of this year.

Hope y'all have a fun week!
We are almost to those two little words that go so well together....Spring Break!
