Our newest book unit is based on the book Fortunately by Remy Charlip. Have you heard of it? It's an oldie, but it has simple language and a fun story. Maybe I should say it's a classic. It is excellent for sequencing, sorting, and opposites. Here's the preview file:
The book keeps students' attention with a variety of scenes involving birthdays, tigers and sharks. It is a great book to use any time of the year. Our packet is $5 and includes:
Sentence Scrambles: differentiated for K, 1st and 2nd grades
Fortunately, Some Sorting: 2 sorting games.
Game #1 is from events in the featured book
Game #2 is based on events that could happen at school (game is independent of the featured book)
Story Element Cards
Craftivity based on the featured book, Fortunately
Fortunately, A Game: can be played traditionally or as a cooperative game
Social Skills Lessons/Pragmatics:
#1 Some Humor: Jokes and explanations
#2 Topic Maintenance and Turn Taking
We'll have this unit at TSHA. Come see our workshop on Saturday morning before you officially start Spring Break!
